Who's buying Starcraft 2 tonight at midnight?
...or at least is planning on getting it at some point? I know I am
![]() Blizzard fucking kills every single game they put out, both with their story line and their game play. Add to it the fact that SC2 can give you limitless amounts of alternative games in their 'use map settings' games (DotA, Tower Defense, etc. etc.), and that these sorts of games have a ton of lasting power (people still play SC1 and Warcraft III, both the traditional game and the custom games), I think it's well worth the ~$60 price tag. The only thing I'm ticked about is that they split the game up into 3 campaigns so they can milk the franchise for all it's worth. We'll see if I'm willing to cough up the additional $120 to play the Protoss and Zerg campaigns (probably won't). For those of you who don't know what starcraft is, or have played it but want a recap in ~5 min., check out this video. http://pc.ign.com/dor/objects/85012...0b.html?show=hi |

Yeah, to play all 3 races online, you only need the first game. But I'm sure the other 2 games, in addition to simply continuing the story line, will come out with new units/etc. a la Brood War in order to get people to buy it. |

Yeah. The SC2 coming out today is "Wings of Liberty," which is JUST the terran campaign. Blizzard will be releasing the Protoss and Zerg campaigns separately in the future, with no time table given for either. |

Yeah, it pisses me off that they did it that way. They CLAIM that the reason they're doing it that way is because they had SO much content that they didn't want to leave out that they split it up into 3 releases, but that each release will have the same amount of content as the entirety of one of the originals. In other words, Wings of Liberty is supposedly going to have the same amount of campaign content as the entirety of the first Star Craft. I don't know if I buy that, and I don't know how they're going to make THAT much content still feel new and fresh throughout. I'm assuming it's going to be kinda like Warhammer 40k, where you don't HAVE to play all the levels/content if you don't want to. In WH40k, they have a main story arc that you can follow, but you also can choose to go on a bunch of side missions along the way that help upgrade your troops, get you cooler items, etc. It doesn't progress the story line, and they get kinda repetitive because they're variations on the same 2 or 3 missions, but it's still 'new content', I suppose, since it's on different worlds with different enemies. Either way, I'm still going to get it. I haven't been disappointed by a blizzard product yet, so until I am, despite my criticisms, I'll still pay. |

For those of you who are interested, you can actually download the game itself right now, you just can't activate/play it until midnight tonight (not sure if it's EST or PST). You pay when you activate it.

I saved up quite a bit of money over my ~18 months of employment. A one-time $60 expenditure isn't going to break the bank. |
