There are a few missions where you have to choose between two people, but it doesn't affect the overall story arc all that much. You might get a few research points for one thing vs. another, or you might get a slightly different unit by helping one person vs. helping another. Overall, it has little effect.

I think there's something like 30 missions total. Some of them are very short/quick.

Blizzard fucking kills every single game they put out, both with their story line and their game play. Add to it the fact that SC2 can give you limitless amounts of alternative games in their 'use map settings' games (DotA, Tower Defense, etc. etc.), and that these sorts of games have a ton of lasting power (people still play SC1 and Warcraft III, both the traditional game and the custom games), I think it's well worth the ~$60 price tag.

The only thing I'm ticked about is that they split the game up into 3 campaigns so they can milk the franchise for all it's worth. We'll see if I'm willing to cough up the additional $120 to play the Protoss and Zerg campaigns (probably won't).

For those of you who don't know what starcraft is, or have played it but want a recap in ~5 min., check out this video.
